You have now reached a crucial point in your time here at Rockwood Academy; this is your very first opportunity to make decisions about your academic future, and it is extremely important that you make the right choices.
Students in years 9, 10 and 11 study the compulsory core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. You also have non-examined Physical Education and Personal Development (which includes Religious Education and Computing). Beyond the compulsory core examination subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, you can now choose which other subjects you want to study to GCSE level.

Our Rockwood Academy curriculum has been specially developed to meet the needs of all of our students. Through all year groups, our curriculum provides a rich spiritual, moral, social and cultural education for our students, whilst also promoting British values through our core values of collaboration, opportunity, respect and excellence. This holistic approach to educating well-rounded, responsible citizens supports our personalised curriculum that allows students to be supported and challenged appropriately, and our brightest students will have the opportunity to take as many as 10 academic GCSEs.

The broad range of subjects on offer to you are explained in this booklet, and each page also refers you to the relevant Head of Department who can be contacted if you require any further information.

We strongly recommend that you and your parents take the time to read the booklet very carefully together. Even if you think that you have already decided what options you want to study, make sure you find out about everything on offer to you before making any firm decisions.
