Religious education

RE encourages students to develop their sense of identity and belonging. It enables them to flourish individually within their communities and as citizens in a diverse society and global community.

RE has an important role in preparing students for adult life, employment and lifelong learning. It enables them to develop respect for and sensitivity to others – in particular those whose faiths and beliefs are different from their own. It promotes discernment and enables students to combat prejudice.

  • To develop an understanding of religions, beliefs and values
  • To develop the character of young people in our society
  • To recognise that students are part of a community that aims to encourage them to contribute to school, our society and our world and thus also to help them acquire the requisite skills to do so
  • To develop a sincere understanding of human rights and how we should respect each other in a multicultural and multi-faith society in Britain and globally.
